Geographer to Recruit Influential Tweeters to Spread Emergency Messages

Date Posted: 10/16/14

Posted By: California Geographic Alliance (CGA)

California Geographic Alliance Geospatial Technology Coordinator, Ming-Hsiang Tsou, a geography professor at San Diego State University, will evaluate the 30,000-plus followers of San Diego County's Twitter account to determine which ones would be most effective in spreading information about emergency alerts. Tsou will look at how many followers the users have and how often their messages are retweeted. "If we have 1,000 highly influential volunteers retweeting these [emergency] messages, almost everybody in San Diego will get the message," Tsou said.
